Tranquebar

Tranquebar or Tharangambadi, as it is called locally, meaning "place of the singing waves", is a town in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu located about 100 km south of Pondicherry. It was a Danish colony in India from 1620-1845. Tranquebar was founded by the Danish King Christian IV in 1620, during the same period Fort Dansborg was built by a Danish captain named Ove Gjedde.

In 1845 the colony was sold to Great Britain along with the other Danish settlements in India, Serampore, and the Nicobar Islands.

Since the Tsunami in 2004, BESTSELLER FUND has helped Tranquebar overcome this disaster by starting a number of social and educational projects. Projects like coastal protection planting, solid waste management, and other employment generating activities.
