The Parade Ground is the biggest open space inside the Heritage Precinct which is used by locals as well as visitors. The idea is to turn the Parade Ground into the finest landscaped spaces inside the Heritage Precinct. This is done by regulating the landscape and traffic.
Lively activities instead of cars
For years the area has been overrun by busses, cars, and motorbikes disturbing the potential peaceful and quiet ambience of the beach. This will change in the future. The plan is to make an area which is nice for locals and visitors and full of life and activities. Trees will be planted to create shade and in the middle it will be possible for the locals to play cricket games and have the annual football tournament that used to be held at the ground. Small shops will be made for locals to sell different goods and a weekly market will give the locals and visitors a taste of Tranquebar’s flavours. A miniature model of the old Tranquebar will be made in granite for the visitors to get an idea of how Tranquebar used to look like.
