Tibet Craft and Design Centre

BESTSELLER FUND has worked in collaboration with National Women’s Federation and etablish a centre for both education and exhibition of Tibetan Traditional and Contemporary Craft. A profound weakening of the Tibetan craft has taken place during the last years, and Tibetan artisans are not able to compete neither on quality nor on price as “Tibetan” craft is made in Nepal, India, and other parts of China. Most of what is sold in Tibet is actually not made here. This would eventually lead to a dying out of Tibetan craft in Tibet. It is the aim of the centre to turn this development around by offering education within craft and business management.

Made in Tibet
The centre will also have a permanent exhibition for Tibetan craft, making it possible for tourists to distinguish between Tibetan and non-Tibetan products. The centre should also work to form an association for Tibetan artisans and create a trademark “made in Tibet”.

Helping Tibetan art in Denmark
BESTSELLER FUND has also supported the training of a Tibetan artisan Penba in conservation techniques at The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen. We will continue the cooperation as the school will be involved in restoration projects in Tibet in the future.
