Kakundi Community School is situated in a hilly area by a lake in Rakai, southern Uganda, about 10 km from the nearest village.
Kakundi Community School consists of a children's home, a nursery school (baby class, middle and top class), and a primary school with 7 classes and a total of 450 children. Many of the children are orphans and they have often lost their parents because of AIDS.
The academic standard of country schools is not very high in Uganda, but the school is above the local standard. Music, drama, and sports play an important role and the children also help cultivate the kitchen garden.
In 2007, a total of 37 children continued their education paid by ICWS Educational Fund.
The Kakundi Community School has been constructed on funds raised by ICWS, and money which comes from the sponsorship pays the running costs of the school. The school has 36 acres of land, and a part of this is cultivated to contribute to the food for the children in the children's home.
